Report on the Outcomes of Focus Groups for the South Australian Ageing Atlas: Ageing and its Implications for Social and Planning Policy
This report presents the outcomes of research into the current and future housing requirements of South Australians aged 55 years and over. The report focuses on the outcomes of 10 focus groups conducted for Planning SA between February and April 2007. Nine focus groups were conducted in particular locales (Burnside, Glenelg, Inner Adelaide, Elizabeth, Marion, Findon, Clare, Murray Bridge and Goolwa) and the tenth involved speaking with key stakeholders in the development of housing for older South Australians. Each of the focus groups targeted a particular cohort determined by the project reference group and researchers.
The research found that the current and future housing requirements of older South Australians varied within and between some groups/cohorts and this differentiation was clearly related to where people live, their age, socio-economic status and the assets they hold. This said, the majority of respondents were remarkably similar in the ways that they viewed their housing and what they wanted from it.
