National Committee for Geography

Aims of the National Committee for Geography

The Australian Academy of Science has more than thirty National Committees - of which the National Committee for Geography is one - to advise its Council on the various areas of science in Australia and provide liaison with international scientific bodies, notably those affiliated with the International Council of Scientific Unions. The aims of these Committees are to:

  1. liaise with appropriate national and international bodies and societies;
  2. propose and encourage activities in Australia, either jointly with other bodies or separately;
  3. ensure the maximum participation by Australian scientists in relevant activities of the international body (the International Geographical Union); and
  4. keep the international body informed at appropriate times of Australian opinions and plans.
