Research Areas

Her research interests are in information and communication policy making in
development, information technology in governance at the local, national,
international and transnational level, and gender and ICTs. Her PhD thesis
project at the School of Information Studies, Syracuse University, examines
whether information systems used by governments in India have instituted new
relational patterns within governments and between governments and other
stakeholders, how they have done this, and if they have not, why not. Ms
Mundkur has also worked as a consultant on various projects in India including "IT for change" and Voices (a community radio project).

She is keen on exploring issues related to the sustainable use of ICTs for
development, especially the dynamics between the use of new technologies,
gender relations and the empowerment of women. She is also interested
researching how new technologies can be used to strengthen knowledge
processes within organizations working on women's issues."
