Research Interests
My major area of research interest is in the field of body image, broadly
defined. I am particularly interested in the role of the media in body
image and self-esteem. Other specific topics include: the development
of body image in children, the effect of dieting on psychological well-being
and cognitive performance, body image across the life span, the practice
of hair removal, and stereotyping of fat. My other main focus is an ARC-funded
project in collaboration with Eva Kemps which attempts to understand and
reduce food cravings using an experimental cognitive approach.
