Eye movement-based memory effect in Autism Spectrum Disorder: Do people with Autism recognise familiar faces implicitly?

Previous studies using eye scanning equipment have shown that in the first moments of exposure eye movements differ for familiar versus novel faces. This effect is an implicit measure of memory as it can be observed without reliance on explicit or conscious recall. The aim of my research is to examine the eye movement-based memory effect in response to familiar and novel faces in persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is hoped this will enable us to better understand memory and the early stages of social information and face processing, in people with autism.

Additional Research Interests

Previously I have been involved in translating and training therapists and other professionals in the use of the ADEC (Young, 2007) autism early detection tool throughout Mexico, and have also researched the psychosocial development of adolescents with Asperger syndrome.
