Infant Sleep Disturbance: A randomised controlled trial of behavioural interventions and an assessment of infant stress.

Most parents will at some stage report that their infants have sleeping problems. To some degree this is normal in the first six months of a baby's life. However, when sleeping problems continue it can cause a great deal of stress within the family and the sleep difficulties can continue into adulthood if untreated. A treatment study currently underway for 6-16 month old children will compare three treatment groups: Sleep Training, Bedtime Fading and Education & Monitoring. The use and comparison of activity monitors and parent completed infant sleep diaries will allow us to investigate night time awakenings where infants resume sleep without signalling as well as those that parents are aware of.

Recruitment for the study will continue throughout 2007/08. For more information about the treatment study, or to register your interest as a participant, please contact Kate on (08) 8201 2349 or email kate.jackson@flinders.edu.au.
