Field Education Program
The Field Education Program is an important component of the social work degree at Flinders University. In field studies, a student is placed in an agency under professional supervision to develop skills acquired in class.
Field Education in the BSW degree
Social Work is a professional discipline and students need the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective practitioners. Over the two years of the BSW, students will be placed in two practice settings, and will develop a range of interpersonal skills and helping methods, experience a range of social problems and client groups and develop expertise in a range of professional interventions.
The Field Education Program has several components:
- Field Education Seminars are held during the first semester to acquaint students with the structure, purposes and expectations of field education.
- Field Placements give the student time in an agency under professional
supervision to practise skills acquired in the classroom. A wide range
of placements are available including:
- Child Protection
- Community Health
- Hospital Social Work
- Counselling
- Research
- Social Planning
- Aged Care
- Social Work with Migrant Groups
- Correctional Services
