Penny was appointed as a Field Education Coordinator (International Students) in November 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (1983) and Bachelor of Social Administration from Flinders University (1985), Graduate Diploma in Social Sciences (Child Development) from the University of South Australia (1997) and Master of Social Work from Flinders University (2004).
Penny’s direct practice experience of 20 years is as a Probation and Parole Officer, Department of Correctional Services (1986-1993), Educational Social Worker both in Adelaide and on exchange in Denver, Colorado for one year (1993-2006) and as a child protection social worker in London (2002-2003).
Penny teaches introductory social work skills to students prior to commencing their first placement. She facilitates first and second placement field education seminars and assesses students while undertaking their field placement experience. Penny has recently commenced as a tutor with Masters Student’s in the Social Work with Diverse Populations topic. Penny provides additional support to International students where and when required. She is currently trialling a mentoring program for Masters social work students new to Flinders 2007.
Penny was successful in her application to the Council of International Fellowship (CIF) exchange program for social workers to Finland (2005).
Her community activities include ongoing membership of the SA AASW branch CPE committee for over 10 years. She is Treasurer of the Australian branch of CIF and is currently involved in organising the inaugural CIF exchange program to Australia August-September 2007.
