Research Interests

June Marks is an Australian Research Council Research Fellow undertaking postdoctoral research in a major ARC Linkage Project: Acceptability of reclaimed water use in urban Australia: Establishing a baseline and variations based on experience, consultation and trust. Benchmark data on public acceptance of alternative sources of water for domestic and general uses has been generated through a national telephone survey of Australian capital cities. The influence of risk perceptions, environmental and postmaterial values, confidence in key public institutions, views on water shortages and water conservation behaviours are under analysis. Currently, three embedded case studies are capturing the experience of recycling water for household purposes. Key findings will be compared to the national data and the influence of public consultation/communication will be explored for its role in building trust in innovative technology within the context of environmental risk.
