17 May - Social Innovation Workshop
Thursday, 17 May from 9.00 - 11.00am
at Carnegie-Mellon University's Adelaide Campus
Torrens Building, 220 Victoria Square, Adelaide
The workshop will look at what could be done in South Australia to accelerate
innovation in social fields. It will look at the State's strong, and long, history
of innovation and ask what could be done in practice to address today's issues
and to speed up our ability to innovate new and more effective models. The workshop
will focus on the following questions in particular:
- Where are the areas most in need of innovation - eg, ageing and care, young
people's transitions to work and adulthood, water, climate change, etc?
- How can promising ideas best be funded and supported - by government, foundations,
business or partnerships?
- How can innovations best be assessed and nurtured?
- How can the best ones then be mainstreamed?
This discussion will be introduced by Lionel Orchard (Head, School of Political
and International Studies, Flinders University), Tim Zak (former Director of
the Social Innovation Accelerator in Pittsburgh and now Executive Director,
Heinz School of Public Policy and Management (Australia), Carnegie-Mellon University,
Adelaide) and Geoff Mulgan.
