Dr Janet McIntyre (nee Mills) is Associate Professor in the Flinders Institute of Public Policy and Management. Her research has influenced the field of critical systems thinking and practice as it relates to design, governance and democracy. She is author and editor of several books and publishes as McIntyre-Mills. She conceptualised and lead an ARC linkage grant that spans university disciplines (informatics, health, public policy, management and cultural studies). Janet participates in several international professional organisations such as the International Sociological Association, the International Systems Sciences and the Australianand New Zealand Systems Sciences and International Systems Sciences. For example she was nominated and elected as a member of the International Sociological Association (ISA), RC10's organising committee for Barcelona 2008 on participation and democracy, chaired by Professor Sunker.
Qualifications and Background
Dr Janet McIntyre is an Associate Professor in the Flinders Institute of Public
Policy and Management has contributed across the fields of sociology, development
studies and social cybernetics. She currently leads an Australian research Council
linkage grant with a multidisciplinary team in partnership with Neporendi Forum
Inc and South Australian Health Department.

McIntyre-Mills, J. (2006) 'Systemic Governance and Accountability: working and re-working the conceptual and spatial boundaries of international relations and governance'. Volume 3 of the 'C. West Churchman and Related Works Series'. Contributed 80% of the chapters with vignettes and contributions from colleagues. The volume makes a case for interorganisational co-operation and civil participation in decision making, in order to ensure a better match between service users and providers.

Rescuing the Enlightenment from Itself: Critical and Systemic Implications for democracy' (2006) C. West Churchman Series, Vol. 1. Springer. London. ISBN -10 0-387 27587-8, ISBN -10: 0387-27589-4(e book) - contributed 3 chapters and the preface. The book comprises 16 chapters (approx 400 pages) submitted by thirteen colleagues, representing critical and systemic thinking in Australia, USA, Norway, France, South Africa and Greece. This co-edited volume applies critical thinking and practice to contemporary issues internationally. Civil rights, human rights and worker rights are discussed in terms of a sustainable social and environmental future. I wrote chapters based on current research on democracy, human rights, governance and also case studies on complex health, housing and social wellbeing issues.
