PhD Title:  “Breaking the Silence:  In Search of Domestic Violence in Indonesia” (As Case Study of Makassar South-Sulawesi)

This research focuses on exploring the question of domestic violence in Indonesia with specific reference to Makassar South-Sulawesi, an area where the number of domestic violence incidents is high.  It will not only consider the relationship between men and women but also social and cultural attitudes, and most especially that of religious influence towards the phenomena of domestic violence in Indonesia.  This study is therefore designed to analyse factors which contribute to the prevalence of domestic violence, its effect on women as survivors of domestic violence as well as children, and the ways in which they might empower them.
