Present position:

  • Head of Department of Women's Studies
  • Director of Studies

Areas of expertise:

  • The gender, race and sexual politics of citizenship and national identity;
  • The politics and cultural formation of reproduction, in particular abortion;
  • Sexuality studies and queer theory;
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to history, including oral history;
  • Feminism and feminist theory;
  • Australian history.

Barbara currently holds an Australian Research Council Discovery grant titled 'Reconfiguring intimate life: Gender and sexuality as sites of national redefinition in Australian since 1996'.
