Support for academic visitors

Visiting Scholar Program

Academics from within and outside Australia who are planning to take sabbatical leave are invited to apply for the honorary position of Visiting Scholar in the School of Geography, Population and Environmental Management at Flinders University.

The School of Geography, Population and Environmental Management is keen to support national and international collaboration and has a productive history of assisting the research of visiting academics in recent years. Through the visitor scheme our staff can ensure that visiting academics are directed towards the relevant intellectual resources of the university, assisted with fieldwork and offered support with the research process.

The School can usually offer shared office accommodation, arrange membership of the library and provide relevant resources, such as computer, email and telephone access. The university may be able to provide some help finding accommodation in Adelaide. The School cannot offer financial support to cover the cost of airfares to Australia, but established scholars who can make a significant contribution to the School’s existing research programs may be eligible for appointment as a Faculty Visiting Research Fellow (see http://www.socsci.flinders.edu.au/research/staff/visitingResearchFellows.php), which does provide assistance with travel costs.

Visiting Scholars will be expected to take part in School research activities, give a research seminar to staff and graduate students and acknowledge Flinders University in any publications that result from their period as Visiting Scholar. Where overseas scholars have the equivalent of Australian full professorial status at their home institution, they will be granted Visiting Professor status. Recent visitors have included Professor Paul Matthews (University of New Mexico), Professor Graham Haughton (University of Hull), Professor Chris Paris (University of Ulster), Dr Tracey Skelton (Loughborough University) and Dr Paul Sutton (Denver University).
